Arco Marchesale, the grand gateway through which was once the only entrance or exit to the "Castello Poliniano" as it was described in the year 959 ad, although this arched gateway was built in the late 16th century. Unfortunately the rest of the defensive walls were sold off to locals 200 years ago.

Here on a close up view you can see a well preserved sixteenth century fresco of the Crucifixion above the entrance, either side of which are the slots through once ran the chains for the drawbridge.
